Wisconsin Anti-Coerced Abortion Bill 'Absolutely Necessary' Say 'Silent No More' Leaders

Wisconsin Anti-Coerced Abortion Bill 'Absolutely Necessary' Say 'Silent No More' Leaders

STATEN ISLAND, NY, Sept. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, the nation's largest network of women and men testifying to the harm they endured from abortion, today said that a Wisconsin bill to help prevent coerced abortion is needed not only in that state, but across the country.

"In recent months alone, we've seen numerous high profile news stories about women threatened and intimidated by their parents, boyfriends, and others into having abortions," said Georgette Forney, Co- Founder of the SNMAC. "I know from talking to thousands of women that these are not isolated cases. I also know that the pain and torment caused by abortion can only be magnified when a woman submits involuntarily to the taking of her child. I don't see how anyone could oppose this measure."

Janet Morana, another SNMAC co-founder, added, "The Wisconsin bill only requires an abortionist to determine if the woman's consent is voluntary and to provide her with information on available services should the doctor determine that she's at risk of domestic abuse. It's a small step toward protecting women from this kind of violence, but it's absolutely necessary."
Wisconsin's bill to prevent coerced abortion has passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is awaiting a vote by the full legislative body. Seven other states have passed similar measures.

Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 2,326 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at 189 gatherings in 44 states and six countries where more than 15,000 spectators have heard the truth about abortion's negative aftereffects. More than 4,100 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign's goals.

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life. For more information, please visit our website www.SilentNoMoreAwareness.org

Michael Anthony Peroutka, 2004 Constitution Party Presidential Candidate, Endorses Rep. Ron Paul

Michael Anthony Peroutka, 2004 Constitution Party Presidential Candidate, Endorses Rep. Ron Paul

MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following statement has been issued by Michael Anthony Peroutka, the Presidential candidate of the Constitution Party in 2004. He is also co-founder, with his brother Steve, of " Institute On The Constitution." And he is co-host, with John Lofton, of " The American View" radio show.

I endorse Rep. Ron Paul for President. And I endorse him not because he is the lesser of two evils. A Christian can never endorse any kind of evil. I endorse Rep. Paul because -- from a Christian/Biblical and Constitutional perspective - he is, by far, the best candidate running for President.

--- Rep. Paul believes, correctly, that the Bible is the infallible, inerrant word of God and thus it is not the role of God-ordained civil government, at any level, to feed, house, clothe or educate anybody.

--- Rep. Paul takes his oath to God as a Congressman seriously and believes, correctly, that the Constitution is the highest man-made law in our land, that it severely restricts what the Federal Government can legally do, and it must be obeyed. This is why, as he states on his campaign web site, he has: never voted to raise taxes; never voted for an unbalanced budget; never voted for a Federal restriction on gun ownership; never voted to raise Congressional pay; never taken a government-paid junket; and has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

In addition, Rep. Paul has voted against: the Patriot Act; regulating the Internet; and he voted against the Iraq war. He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program. He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

--- Rep. Paul, again correctly, is truly pro-life and believes that there are no circumstances under which it is OK to murder by abortion any innocent unborn babies.

Another admirable characteristic demonstrated repeatedly by Rep. Paul is that he speaks honestly and plainly. In one of the recent GOP candidate debates, re: the Iraq war, he said: "Yes, I would leave. I would leave completely" - no troops in the region there, none. Period. He added: "We need a new foreign policy...to mind our own business, bring our troops home, defend this country, defend our borders."

When his questioner dishonestly accused him of saying that we should take our marching orders from Al Qaida who also want us to withdraw from the Arabian Peninsula, Rep. Paul replied: "I'm saying we should take our marching orders from our Constitution. We should not go to war without a declaration. We should not go to war when it's an aggressive war. This is an aggressive invasion. We've committed the invasion of this war. [The Constitution is] where I take my marching orders, not from any enemy."

Well, amen!, Rep. Paul. God bless you, sir, and your family as you proceed in this campaign. And God does bless us when we obey Him.

Rep. Ron Paul is a real patriot who understands that true love of country requires, first, trusting in God's Providence and next obedience to our Constitution. He is a man who rejects mindless jingoism such as "My country right or wrong." Instead, he believes that when our country is wrong - as it is today in many ways -- true patriots must work to set us right. As President, Ron Paul, I believe, would work Christianly and Constitutionally to set our country right. This is why, in good conscience, I endorse his candidacy for President of the United States.

Report Blasts Rotary Clubs for Advancing the Culture of Death

Report Blasts Rotary Clubs for Advancing the Culture of Death

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- "It would be impossible for any person with an intact conscience to turn a blind eye to Rotary's ungodly associations and population control programs. One may offer up any excuse or justification he or she desires, but there is no way that anyone who truly cares about human life, born and preborn, could be associated with Rotary International. No way whatsoever." This was the conclusion reached by Douglas R. Scott, Jr., president of Life Decisions International (LDI), in a recently published report titled, "Rotary's Dance With Death" Population Control Agenda And Ties To Pro-Abortion Groups Eclipse Good Works."

The report, which is printed in the Summer 2007 edition of LDI's Special Reports, begins by outlining Rotary's altruistic beginnings and how it came to embrace the famous "Four-Way Test." Adopted by Rotary International in 1943, The Four-Way Test consists of four questions that business people should apply to everything they "think, say or do":

Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build good will and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The report lauds the organization's desire to eradicate Polio. But this is where the praise ends.

"With one hand Rotary Clubs are helping save the lives of children by inoculating them against polio. With the other hand Rotary Clubs are working with population control agencies to advance the Culture of Death," Scott said. "This is no different than a hospital that commits abortions on one floor and has an advanced prenatal unit on another. It's another example of society's schizophrenia when it comes to how we treat preborn human life."

Scott discusses Rotary's ties to pro-abortion and pro- population control agencies such as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). He specifically addresses the "excuses" given by Rotary officials for linking with the controversial agencies.

In 2003, Rotary created the "Rotarian Fellowship for Population and Development (RFPD)." Its purpose is to "support Rotary club projects that address population and development issues." RFPD provides grants to Rotary clubs for work on "population" issues.

"Rotary had an admirable start," Scott said. "But one need only apply its own Four-Way Test to see the group has lost its way."

The report may be accessed on LDI's website.

Life Decisions International (LDI) is dedicated to challenging the Culture of Death, concentrating on exposing and fighting the agenda of Planned Parenthood. LDI's chief project is a boycott of corporations that fund the abortion-committing giant. To learn more about Planned Parenthood, please visit: http://www.fightpp.org/show.cfm?page=wrong

Federal Appeals Court Dumps Abortion-Child Sex Case on Technicality

Federal Appeals Court Dumps Abortion-Child Sex Case on Technicality

Implications of original ruling make Kansas a haven for child predators

DENVER, Sept. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- A Federal Appeals Court has dismissed a case brought by abortionists and other abortion supporters against Kansas for attempting to enforce their mandatory child sex abuse reporting law. Legislators had changed one word in the statute, rendering the case moot.

Kansas law requires that health care professionals, teachers, and other professionals who work with children must report all suspicion of sexual abuse. Aid for Women, an Kansas City abortion mill run by abortionist Sherman Zaremski filed suit against former Attorney General Phill Kline after he issued an opinion indicating that abortion clinics were required to follow the law.

After hearing testimony that included that of a homosexual psychologist who claimed that sex with 10-year old girls was healthy, Judge Thomas Marten ruled at trial that abortion clinics and other health professionals need not report all suspected cases to the authorities and left reporting of such abuse discretionary. Kline appealed, but his predecessor, an abortion supporter, joined in the motion to dismiss the case at the appellate level due to the one-word change in the law.

"The implications of the original ruling are devastating. Even though the abortionist's case was dismissed, this impression that reporting is discretionary remains," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "This means that abortion mills will continue to cover up incidents of suspected underage child sex in order to protect child predators, as they have for years in Kansas."

A case in point was that of Robert Estrada, who was convicted of raping his two young step-daughters and impregnating them a total of four times. The first pregnancy resulted in an abortion on one of the girls at age 12 at a Wichita abortion clinic where Zaremski worked. Because Zaremski and his staff refused to report the sexual abuse, it was allowed to continue on for years.

"The case was misrepresented in the media as a 'kiss and tell' case that would endanger the privacy of teens, and was never completely understood by the general public," said Newman. "Abortionist are hiding child sexual predators on a daily basis and young girls who should be protected are exploited and abused. They have effectively made Kansas a safe haven for child rapists and declared 'open season' on little girls."

Operation Rescue filed a complaint in February with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts against Zaremski for not reporting the child rape in the Estrada case. An investigation is pending.

About Operation Rescue

HSE warns construction workers in the East 'Don't take the risk'

HSE warns construction workers in the East 'Don't take the risk'

LONDON. September 20, 2007/3mnewswire.org/- "Nearly one in 3 construction refurbishment sites inspected put the lives of workers at risk", Stephen Williams, HSE Head of Construction said.

This startling figure comes after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) carried out over 1500 inspections as part of its rolling inspection programme, resulting in enforcement action on 426 occasions in just two months.

In the East, 140 sites were visited resulting in 12 Prohibition Notices being served and work being halted immediately until corrective action was taken.

Philip Poynter, Principal Construction Inspector HSE, for the region said:

"I am greatly concerned at the apparent willingness to ignore basic safety precautions. It is completely unacceptable that lives are being put at risk.

"The simple fact is that despite knowing what they should be doing, too many people are prepared to allow bad practices to continue, even though last year 39 people died on refurbishment, repair and maintenance sites.

"We are determined to tackle this issue head on and will continue to provide information and advice. However, enforcement action will be taken against those who flout safety precautions and this includes closing sites and prosecution."

Work at height remains the biggest concern. Over half of the enforcement action taken during this inspection initiative was against dangerous work at height, which last year led to the death of 23 workers.

Philip Poynter continued:

"My advice to those who work in the refurbishment sector is to plan your work carefully, use competent workers and when working at height use the right equipment and use it safely."

Abortion Opponents Prepare Nationwide Campaign Following Victory in Aurora, IL

Abortion Opponents Prepare Nationwide Campaign Following Victory in Aurora, IL

AURORA, Ill., Sept. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- "On September 26, more than 80 cities in 33 states will follow the courageous example set by Aurora, Illinois, and join together for the largest and longest simultaneous pro-life mobilization in American history," said David Bereit, national director of the 40 Days for Life campaign.

The 40-day pro-life campaign in Aurora that thwarted the scheduled opening of a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility was inspired by 40 Days for Life. Local pro-life leaders have collaborated with the national 40 Days for Life campaign since the news broke about Planned Parenthood's attempts to open the abortion center under false pretenses.

Bereit will deliver the keynote address at tonight's pro- life rally in Aurora. The event will be held at Wheatland Community Park beginning at 5:30 PM. Bereit's address starts at approximately 7:00.

40 Days for Life is an intensive pro-life campaign that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and grassroots educational outreach. This fall's nationwide campaign builds on a track record of proven results in seven cities. More information can be found at: www.40daysforlife.com

Planned Parenthood's national president, Cecile Richards, sent a mass e-mail about the Aurora situation to abortion advocates around the country, stating that "more people are protesting this clinic than we've seen in a long time." She added, "To be honest, it's going to take all our efforts to open this clinic."

Said Bereit, "If it takes all of Planned Parenthood's national efforts to respond to 40 days of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism in one city, we can only imagine the impact it will have on the entire abortion industry when more than 80 cities join together for 40 Days for Life beginning next week. The events in Aurora have inspired unprecedented levels of pro-life activity all across the nation, forming a 'perfect storm' which we believe could mark the beginning of the end of abortion in America."

Bereit can be reached directly for interviews at david@40daysforlife.com or 202-280-8993.

New Jersey Attacks Religious Freedom by Revoking Methodist

New Jersey Attacks Religious Freedom by Revoking Methodist

Camp Tax Exemption for Not Hosting Same-Sex Union
"Contrary to New Jersey's assertions, the Ocean Grove Camp Ground Association has not limited the use of its boardwalk pavilion to any person, rather it has prohibited some BEHAVIOR, according to the principles of the United Methodist Church." --Mark Tooley, Executive Director UMAction

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- Ocean Grove Camp Ground in New Jersey was founded and has been privately owned by a Methodist organization since the 19th century. New Jersey is now threatening its tax-exempt status because the camp ground will not host homosexual ceremonies, in compliance with the teachings of the United Methodist Church. According to the New York Times, the state commissioner of environmental protection declined to recertify a boardwalk pavilion as tax exempt because the camp ground would not allow a lesbian rite there. The lesbian couple has filed a civil rights complaint with the state against the Ocean Grove Camp Ground Association.

Methodists founded the privately-owned camp ground in the 19th century as a place for spiritual revival and continue to operate it today. Association leaders point to the United Methodist Church's official prohibition against same-sex unions on church property.

IRD Director of UMAction Mark Tooley responded,

"The state ruled that the boardwalk pavilion no longer met the tax-exempt requirement as a place fully open to the public, which is inaccurate. The pavilion is in fact open to all people, and the lesbian couple in this dispute could have used it for any number of purposes other than the celebration of a ceremony that the United Methodist Church specifically prohibits on church property.

"Contrary to New Jersey's assertions, the Ocean Grove Camp Ground Association has not limited the use of its boardwalk pavilion to any person, rather it has prohibited some BEHAVIOR, according to the principles of the United Methodist Church.

"The New Jersey government is now interfering with the camp association's religious liberty by revoking its green space tax exemption. This tax exemption had previously been renewed year after year without objection. Now suddenly it has become endangered in a vindictive political attack unrelated to environmental protection or green space."

Christian Students Leading Revival in USA Public Schools

Christian Students Leading Revival in USA Public Schools: Three Nationwide Prayer & Bible Events Converging on Campuses Sept 23-29

MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- A revival of faith and grace has been happening in America's Public Schools. A Revolution: and it's being led by dynamic Christian teenagers and children.

A confluence of three significant Christian-youth events positively influencing America's public schools is converging upon campuses the week of September 23-29. A veritable "trinity" of Great Commission happenings:

"See You At The Pole" 9/26 www.syatp.org

"Scriptures in Schools Week" Sept 23-29 www.bringyourbible.com

"Adopt-A-School-for-Christ" Campus Challenge Sunday 9/23 www.everyschool.com

Millions of Christian students, along with teachers/staff, parents, and clergy, will participate at Public Schools across America. Preliminary rallies and concerts are being held in churches and venues the weekend of September 21-23.

Press/Media representatives are invited to attend such events. Interviews with students and Youth Pastors are welcomed in-advance or on-location.

A typical example is the SYATP & SIS Week Rally-&- Concert being hosted at Emmanuel Christian Fellowship in Hackensack, NJ, Friday, 9/21, 7:00-10:00 PM. Students from various Bergen County churches, high schools, middle, and elementary schools will gather for prayer, singing, celebration, motivational speakers, and enjoy uplifting Christian bands and rap artists.

"There is still time for churches, Youth Groups, or individual Christian students to participate nationwide," says Bob Pawson of Scriptures in Schools. "Get informed, inspired, and involved! Be salt and light in your schools. Visit those ministry websites and: Go for it."

"America has suffered through several decades of negative peer pressure which forced at least three generations into self-destructive moral relativism, me- first self absorption, promiscuity, perversity, incurable/fatal STDs, alcohol and drug abuse, depression, divorce, despair and death: including suicide and the Abortion-Holocaust. Having observed the disastrous consequences which that negative peer pressure continues to inflict upon their Gen-X, Gen-Y and Boomer predecessors, millions of Twenty- First Century youth are abandoning it."

"Today, a refreshing Positive Peer Pressure has emerged among Generation C-21 inspiring youth to a wholesome respect for self and others, acceptance of personal responsibility, sexual purity, hopefulness, and affirmation of the sanctity of human life: All springing from the reassuring freedom, security, and moral clarity of a personal relationship with and committed faith in Jesus Christ."

"We'll See You at the Pole," says Pawson. "Bring your friends to rallies and concerts. Bring your Bibles to school: Tote 'em and quote 'em and use 'em in class. Word up!"

Hospital Chaplain Danny Harvey Fired for Praying In Jesus Name

Hospital Chaplain Danny Harvey Fired for Praying In Jesus Name

30 Churches will march around hospital after hospital CEO Louis Bremer resigns
LEESBURG, Fla., Sept. 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Hospital Chaplain Danny Harvey, recently fired for praying "in Jesus name" by the Leesburg Regional Medical Center, will hold two press conferences, Friday at 2 pm, and Saturday at 8:30 am, on the public steps of City Hall (corner of 5th and Main) in Leesburg Florida.

Clergy and citizens from over 30 churches will gather at 8:15 am, to march around the hospital at 9:00am, on Saturday 15 Sep, starting from the steps of Leesburg City Hall. The marchers will walk in silent prayer for two-miles around the South Campus of the hospital, wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the rallying cry, "My Jesus, My Freedom, My Stand."

Public outcry in support of Chaplain Harvey has already resulted in the sudden resignation of hospital CEO Louis Bremer, the same man who publicly supported Human Resource director Darlene Stone who fired Chaplain Harvey for praying in Jesus name.

Hospital Board Chairman Bill Binneveld (available for public comment at 352-323-5001 through secretary Angela Lackey) personally received CEO Louis Bremer's resignation, but remains undecided about Chaplain Harvey's current request to be reinstated.

Hospital Spokeswoman Diane Maimone wrote, "the issue was not about praying in the name of Jesus Christ, as has been claimed." But documents newly available at www.prayinjesusname.org prove that Chaplain Harvey was directly threatened by hospital administrators with termination if he continued to pray in Jesus name in public.

March organizer Pastor John Kimer said, "This march was inspired by Chaplain Danny Harvey, but this march is not protesting the hospital, or demanding his job back, but for the churches to unite in the community, and stand up for the name of Jesus Christ."

Former Navy Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, who made national headlines after facing court- martial for praying in Jesus name in uniform, will join the march. "We want Chaplain Harvey reinstated," Kingenschmitt said, "The fact CEO Louis Bremer resigned in the face of public scandal should serve as a warning to employers everywhere, that the American public will not tolerate religious discrimination against chaplains or any employees who pray in Jesus name, or share their faith in public."

For interviews, contact Chaplain Danny Harvey: 352- 223-9165 cell, March organizer Pastor John Kimer: 352-748-3255, Chaplain Klingenschmitt: 719-360- 5132 cell or chaplaingate@yahoo.com , and Hospital Board Chairman Bill Binneveld: 352-323-5001 (secretary Angela Lackey).

10 Questions that Reveal Who Should be Our Next President

CHICAGO, Sept. 14 /Standard Newswire/ -- Do you think George Bush knows how much a bus pass costs? When was the last time you think Dick Cheney pulled out an envelope full of coupons to save a few bucks at the grocery store? Does he even know what a grocery store is? Dr. Jessica Davis doesn't want to come on your show to bash the President. But what she does want to do is explain why so many of our national politicians aren't ready to tackle the everyday problems the average American faces - simply because they have no idea what they are.

Dr. Davis, a political commentator and two-time nonpartisan mayoral candidate, has come up with a list of 10 simple questions that every candidate for president - Republican and Democrat alike - should be made to answer this year before we're asked to choose who should be our next president. She'll reveal why:

Asking "How many times have you taken public transportation in the last five years?" reveals a candidate's connection with the average American.
A candidate's answer to "Where did you go to school?" speaks directly to their passion and leadership potential.
You'd be shocked at how many candidates for president don't know the cost of basic necessities - like bread, milk or eggs.

New EU Foot and Mouth restrictions: MCA re-instates advice to shipping

LONDON. September 14, 2007/3mnewswire.org/- The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has been informed by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) that EU restrictions on the export of meat and dairy products are once again in place, due to a new outbreak of foot and mouth disease at a farm in Surrey.

DEFRA has asked the MCA to inform the shipping industry and recreational users of the sea that the restrictions are in place.

Accordingly, the MCA will restart broadcasting advice from DEFRA as part of its Maritime Safety Information Broadcasts. The broadcasts will relay the following information:

"Following the presence of foot and mouth disease in one single area in the UK, and the EU restrictions on the export of meat and dairy products from the UK, the UK Government has advised that meat and meat products, milk and dairy products sourced within Great Britain for consumption onboard any vessel including recreational craft should not be landed abroad, nor any waste stemming from the consumption of these products.

Those vessels unable to return the waste to the UK for safe disposal should consult the receiving port to ensure that local biosecurity measures are observed."

The information will be broadcast twice a day from each HM Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) at 0700 and 1900 on voice, digital and satellite communications.

War on Terror Births Christian Publishing Company

War on Terror Births Christian Publishing Company

PANAMA CITY, Florida. September 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today marks a day that changed our great nation and the people living in it. Six years ago our hearts were broken, but our resolve to make that day count in light of eternity soared. This tragedy called for the military might of nations to arise and the call came forth to the citizen soldier to come to their nation's aid once again. These citizen soldiers put down their chalk, shovels, computers, baby bottles and calculators and took up their posts. Things changed. Lives changed.

One changed life was that of Darrell Parsons, member of the Air National Guard. Within weeks of 9/11/2001, Darrell was activated with his home unit for full-time military duty.
After five years, Parsons was released from full-time military service. Darrell took his family's experience in publishing, retail and ministry to birth Parsons Publishing House which seeks to affect the lives of others in light of eternity. The press has a mission to empower believers to use their voice to impact the world around them.

The press plans to publish ten titles per year in the Christian non-fiction and fiction genres with special emphasis in praise and worship. The lineup will feature new titles by established authors and by debut writers. Parsons released his first book entitled, Release Your Words - Impact Your World. Another release was written by Dr. Gerald Doggett whose first release after forty years of ministry is entitled, Portrait of a Pastor's Heart. His second title in the Pastoral Care Series will be released in Spring 2008.

Another release includes veteran singer and songwriter, Ron Kenoly's The Priority of Praise and Worship. His popular music releases include: Jesus Is Alive, the gold-selling Lift Him Up, God is Able, Sing Out with One Voice and Dove Award-winning Welcome Home. His next book, entitled Effective Worship Leaders, will be released this fall.

Someone once said, "I'm convinced that tragedy wants to harden us and our mission is never to let it." Parsons' has accepted his mission to be silent no more about the victorious and life-changing power of Jesus Christ and the evidence is through his new Christian press. Parsons is a warrior for this nation and a warrior for the Kingdom of God.

CCG Chair Calls for California Governor to Veto SB 777 -- A Threat to Free Speech, Family and Childr

CCG Chair Calls for California Governor to Veto SB 777 -- A Threat to Free Speech, Family and Children

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- Catholics for the Common Good urges Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto SB 777 that passed the Assembly today.

"Despite good intentions, this bill to protect people from discrimination is flawed - it actually creates new forms of discrimination and could lead to censorship," said Catholics for the Common Good Chairman Bill May.

"SB 777 leaves wide latitude for interpretation of what speech, behavior, instruction or activities would be seen to 'promote a discriminatory bias' against homosexual, bisexual, or transgender people," May stated. "Today, discussing the societal benefits of marriage between a man and a woman, and the vital need of children for a mother and father are being attacked as promoting a discriminatory bias against people embracing homosexual life styles."

"SB 777 is written so vaguely, that perceived threats of lawsuits could even lead to censoring of textbooks and books in school libraries," May asserted.

"If SB 777 becomes law, it will continue to undermine parents' confidence in public schools. Lower confidence will compel more parents to seek educational alternatives for their children -- alternatives that protect them from ridicule and social pressure due to their beliefs, and that do not interfere with parental authority. The result would be lower ADA rates and reduced funding for individual public schools, which would impact remaining students."

"Who knows what the consequences would be of deleting the definition of 'sex' of a child as a biological fact and replace it with 'gender,' a subjective term to be determined by the student. The legislature never investigated the cost of accommodating student preferences for lavatory and locker room facilities."

Catholics for the Common Good is a national non- partisan and independent organization of lay Catholics dedicated to promoting the common good, especially in regard to the dignity of life, the primacy of the family, human rights and freedom, and solicitude for the poor and vulnerable.

World and US Church Leaders Bring Experiences of Violence and Peacemaking Together for Dialogue and Joint Action

MEDIA ADVISORY, Sept. 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- Church leaders and communities facing situations of violence in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and New Orleans will share their experiences with an international ecumenical team visiting the United States from 15-23 September. Being from South Africa, Lebanon, Pakistan and Brazil the team members will express the solidarity of churches worldwide with the US churches while learning from their peacemaking efforts concerning urban and gun violence as well as immigration issues and the Iraq war.

The visit of the group, which is called "Living Letters," is part of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Decade to Overcome Violence (2001-2010), an initiative promoting peaceful alternatives to violence.

Members of the team are a church leader, a public health specialist, a theologian and a human rights lawyer, each of them bringing personal experiences of violence and peacemaking from their societies [additional information below].

"The purpose of these Living Letters visits is to create real encounters through which churches worldwide become increasingly aware of their struggles and hopes and are able to encourage and strengthen each other," says Rev. Dr Bernice Powell Jackson, a minister of the United Church of Christ (US) and the WCC president from the North American region.

As Rev. Dr William Shaw, president of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. puts it: "Peacemaking and reconciliation includes building stronger relationships within and outside of the churches and the United States that are responsive to the changing dynamic landscape of Christendom and the unrelenting violence in our world."

"By discussing and praying in small groups, sharing community meals and visiting homes and community centres, we hope the international ecumenical team visiting us will be able to get to the heartbeat of the peace work of the American churches," adds Powell- Jackson, commenting on the programme of the visit whose highlights are [details available upon request]:

New York City (15-16 + 21 September)
By meeting an Arabic Lutheran congregation and Muslim leaders from its neighbourhood, the group will focus on violence and peacemaking efforts in the post 9/11 context of immigration to the US, especially issues affecting Arab and Middle Eastern communities.

On 21 September the team will attend an ecumenical event marking the International Day of Prayer for Peace. This WCC initiative calls on churches worldwide to pray for peace on 21 September, coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Washington, D.C. (17-18 September)
In the wake of a key Congress hearing and a presidential address on the future of the US engagement in Iraq, the Iraq war - largely opposed by the WCC member churches in the US - will be one of the issues discussed with federal legislators and students.

Philadelphia (19-20 September)
Urban violence will be the focus of this stage of the visit, hosted by Rev. Shaw's White Rock Baptist Church, which belongs to the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., the largest African-American denomination.

New Orleans (22-23 September)
The group will get a glimpse of the myriad forms of violence festering in this disaster area and will learn about reconstruction and violence eradication efforts from interfaith groups, church leaders and artists.

Members of the team visiting the churches in the US are:

Rev. Edwin Makue, a minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa who is the general secretary of the South African Council of Churches.
Ms Lina Moukheiber, a Greek Orthodox (Patriarchate of Antioch) public health specialist who is the director of development at the Saint George Hospital in Lebanon.
Dr Marcelo Schneider, a theologian specialized in ecumenical social ethics who is the ecumenical officer of the Evangelical Church of Lutheran Confession in Brazil.
Ms Aneeqa Maria Akhtar, a Roman Catholic human rights lawyer from Pakistan who is a member of the international DOV Reference Group.

WCC staff members accompanying the team are Rev. Deborah DeWinter, from the US, and Rev. Hansulrich Gerber, from Switzerland.

The World Council of Churches is the world's most inclusive ecumenical organization, whose purpose is to promote Christian unity in faith, witness and service for a just and peaceful world. A fellowship of churches inaugurated in 1948, today the WCC brings together 347 Protestant, Orthodox, Anglican and other churches in over 100 countries, representing more than 550 million Christians. The Roman Catholic Church works cooperatively with the WCC.
